**Backup and Recovery** stays compliant when handling PII data. In addition to encryption, you can **hide sensitive fields** within backups directly in the product.

---

### ✅ **How to Hide PII Data**

**When creating a backup:**

1. Select the objects you want to back up.
2. In the object list, click the **API Name** hyperlink.
3. On the next screen, each field has a **Visible** checkbox.
  - ✅ **Checked** → Field will show in the *Records* section.
  - ❌ **Unchecked** → Field will be hidden in the *Records* section.
4. Complete the backup as usual.
5. After the backup runs, hidden fields will not appear in the *Records* view.

> ℹ️ Hidden fields still exist in the underlying backup database - query the database directly to access them if needed.

---

**If the backup already exists:**

1. Go to the **Details** page for the backup.
2. Click the **hamburger menu** next to the backup name and choose **Edit**.
3. Click **Next** until you reach the object selection screen.
4. Click the **API Name** hyperlink for the desired object.
5. Uncheck the **Visible** box for any fields you want to hide.
6. Save changes and re-run the backup.
7. Hidden fields will no longer appear in the *Records* view for that object.

### 🔑 **Why Hide PII Fields?**

Hiding sensitive data from the user interface provides an extra layer of security, ensuring only authorized users with database access can view PII when needed.
