Backup and Recovery includes built-in tools to help you create and manage data retention policies, ensuring compliance with regulations such as GDPR and maintaining a clean database.

## 🧹 **Using GDPR Clean**

The **GDPR Clean** page allows you to define how long deleted records should be retained before being permanently purged.

⚙️ **How to set up a data retention policy:**

1. Open the **GDPR Clean** page.
2. Select the **backup** you want the policy to apply to.
3. Choose the **object** and the **date field** that will be used to determine record age.
4. Specify the **number of days** to keep deleted records.

⚙️ **How it works:**

- Any deleted records older than the specified number of days will be purged automatically.
- Related child records will be deleted along with the parent record.
- The cleanup runs daily to enforce your retention rules.

---

## 📝 **Managing Retention Rules:**

- **Multiple tasks:** You can create multiple retention tasks for each backup.
- **Deactivate:** To temporarily disable a retention rule, uncheck **Active**.
- **Edit or Reset:** Under **Actions**, choose **Edit Rule** to change the settings, or **Reset** to restore the rule to its original configuration.
- **Delete:** Remove the rule entirely if it’s no longer needed.

> ℹ️ Regularly review your retention policies to ensure they align with your company’s compliance requirements and data governance practices. It is best practice to back up your data every 24 hours to protect your information.
